Transfer Orders - migrating from Stocky

Written on .

Transfer Orders are a way of moving stock between locations, whether it is your warehouse and retail store, or between two retail stores. They allow you to create a transfer order, which can be fulfilled by picking the items from one location and shipping them to another.

Stocky has been the way to manage stock transfers between locations in Shopify POS for a long time. However, Shopify has announced that they will be deprecating Stocky transfers and moving Transfers to Shopify Admin in 2025. Your transfers will be migrated over to the new Transfers in Shopify Admin, which allows you to manage your transfers in a more streamlined way.

However not all the features in Stocky will be available in the new transfers. So, for example, replenishment limits haven't moved over, and there's only specific ways to add products. This is where Stock Takes by Pimsical comes in.

We work seamlessly with Shopify transfer orders. Whether you use Stock Takes app or Shopify Admin to create create transfers or add items, the transfer is kept fully in sync for you.

Check out our video or read on to find out more about how Transfer Orders work in Stock Takes by Pimsical.

Adding items to Transfer Orders

You can do this a number of ways:

  • By adding items manually, one at a time.
  • By point of sale via our tile on Shopify POS.
  • By importing items via CSV, using either product ID, SKU, or barcode to identify your products
  • By generating it automatically using Replenishment limits and our replenishment algorithm.

Replenishment Limits

You can use our replenishment limits to automatically replenish a shop or a shop floor, depending how you split your locations for example. You can do this per location, by setting defaults, so you do not have to remember to add a replenishment limit for every single product, saving you time and reducing any errors.

However, you can always set specific product overrides. Find the products you are looking for by searching or filtering down to the product you want to choose. Then click the ... and go to Set Replenishment Limits. You can then enter the amounts and at which location and can save that.

You can then jump back into your transfer order, hit generate items in the Stock Takes by Pimsical app, and those items will be automatically added to the transfer. You will get an e-mail when it has completed.

Managing Transfer Orders on Shopify POS

You can empower your retail teams to create and manage transfer orders directly from Shopify POS. This allows them to add items to a Transfer they have created; then pick, pack and ship items at the origin. The team at the destination can then receive items. All from the same POS they use every day.

No need to send CSV files between teams, using different systems like Netsuite WMS or other inventory management systems or conduct manual communication between teams when transfers are in progress. Your full transfer process done in one place.

Within Stock Takes by Pimsical, you also have a Transfers tile, which when opened this will display any transfers that are to or from your location and the status of them in one place so you can always keep an overview of what is going on in your retail location.

Adding items

To add items to a Transfer, you can use either the camera on a mobile device, any connected Bluetooth barcode scanner, or search for and select items manually on POS or desktop. You can go back and get an overview of the transfer at any time, going back into the line items to update the quantity, or remove it if a mistake was made. When you are ready and have decided all the items you need, you can mark the transfer as ready.

Picking, packing and shipping

Once a transfer is marked as 'ready', it cannot have items added to it further. The next step is creating a new shipment, which then allows the team to begin picking and packing using any connected scanner, mobile camera, or manually by searching. If you are transferring between two retail locations, you can do this all from Shopify POS. Once you have packed the required items, you can complete the shipment. You can decide if it is an internal shipment, i.e. within a store, if you have separated your shop floor and your stockroom, or if you are using a different carrier, you can enter all that information here, including the tracking number or any expected arrival date. You can dispatch one or multiple shipments for a transfer, depending on how you need to process it.

Receiving items

Once a transfer has had some items dispatched, it will be in progress, and the destination location is ready to receive it.

You can see an overview of all deliveries on route and select them to receive them as they arrive, scanning or selecting products shown on screen. You can also reject items if for example it is broken or make a note of anything missing.

When all products have been either received or rejected the transfer will be marked as completed. It is as easy as that to run your entire transfer order process from Shopify POS whilst ensuring everything is kept in sync with Shopify Admin.
